Bibliography and Biography of Frank Herbert: He was born October 8, 1920 in Tacoma, Washington. In 1939, he supposedly lied about his age in order to get his first jop at a local newspaper. he served as a photographer briefly in the U.S. Navy's Seabees during World War II until he was given a medical discharge. He married his first wife, Flora, in San Pedro, California in 1941. His first novel was The Dragon in the Sea, from 1955: a modern submarine was the location for descent into madness and insanity. The backdrop was of worldwide conflict over oil.
